One of the most common questions i get asked is how to calculate CBM, specially by those clients who get charged per Freight Ton (weight or volume whichever is higher).

Firstly CBM stands for CuBic Meter.. This is the most common unit used for the measurement of volumetric cargo.

When you have the dimensions of the package, first of all convert the measurement into meters.. Normally dimensions are in Length x Width x Height.

Sea In inches
L X W X H X number of cartons Divided by 61023.7
Example: 20 x 18 x 26 x 63 ctns Divided 61023.7 = 9. 66 CBM

Sea In C M
L X W X H X number of cartons Divided by 1000000
Example: 32 X 42 X 38 X 160 ctns Divided by 1000000 = 8 . 17 CBM

Capacity 20ft 27 to 30 CBM - Measurement of 20ft MSC Equipment:

Inside Length Inside width Inside Height
19ft- 4 inches 7ft- 7 inches 7ft- 10 inches

Inches Formula for 01 ctn measurement. Example 27X23X18X1 Divided by 61023.7 = 0.183 Now 28 CBM Divided by 0.183 = 153 ctns Mean 153 ctns in 1X20ft
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capacity 40ft 58 to 62 CBM - Measurement 40ft STD. MSC Equipment:

Inside Length Inside width Inside Height
39ft - 5 inches 7ft - 8 inches 7 ft 10 inches

Capacity 40’High Cube 68 to 70 CBM Measurement 40ft H C. MSC equipment:

Inside Length Inside width Inside Height
39ft - 5 inches 7ft - 8 inches 8ft -10 inches

Air in inches
L X W X H X number of cartons Divided by 366
Example 25 x 22 x 20 x 80 ctns Divided by 366 = 2404.37 kgs

Air In C M
L X W X H X number of cartons Divided by 6000

Example 35 x 28 x 20 x 70 ctns Divided by 6000 = 228.66 kgs
